The Administration of Deesire Moore Grace Foundation (DMGF) wholeheartedly extends warm greetings and a heartfelt African Child Day celebration to all Africans around the world.
Every year on June 16th, we observe the International Day of the African Child—a day dedicated to raising awareness about the rights, welfare, and well-being of African children globally.
This significant day carries with it the painful memory of the 1976 Soweto Uprising in South Africa, where thousands of black school children bravely protested against the inferior quality of education and demanded the right to be taught in their own language. Many lives were lost, but their courage ignited a movement that continues to inspire change.
For decades, African children have been denied access to:
- Quality Education
- Healthcare
- Child Protection
- Equal Rights
- Free Movement & Free Speech
- Justice & Dignity
The Day of the African Child serves as a strong advocacy tool to enhance the visibility of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child while promoting children’s rights across the continent.
This year’s theme, “Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights: Progress Since 2010”, is a reminder that while progress has been made, there is still much work to do. Investment in children is an investment in Africa’s future.
At DMG Foundation, we celebrate beyond the history of this day—we celebrate the resilience, strength, and brilliance of the African child. We also acknowledge the challenges that remain, both from historical injustices and present-day struggles.
Founder’s Quote
“Every African child carries within them the light of a brighter tomorrow. Our duty is to protect, nurture, and empower that light until it shines across the world.”
— Ms. Danetta T. Sonpon,Founder of Deesire Moore Grace Foundation
Change starts now! Together, we must continue advocating for every African child to live a life of dignity, opportunity, and hope.
